Beltronics Radar Detector GX65 Professional

By Tom, July 10, 2009

A “Professional” Radar Detector? What’s up that? I was not even aware that there were professional speeders. Hope my new Corvette comes with one of these!

This puppy costs five hundred bucks, so it better jump through some hoops. I’m not really a speeder and I was not aware of what all radar detectors do, with any detail.

For example this one comes with a built-in GPS. Not to tell ya’ where you’re going but to tell what’s waiting for you on the road ahead. It comes, “pre- loaded with thousands of red light and fixed position speed camera locations throughout North America” and you can update the database at their website. Boggles the mind.

There’s more, the list of features is genuinely impressive. I’d chat about it here but it gets “a little” technical. It’s a Radar Detector but it’s also a Laser Detector…Yikes!

So lets see, I’m up against a Police Officer with an Interceptor car, Radar, a Dog, assorted small arms both lethal and non-lethal, two way radio, a cell phone and now Lasers too.

If this baby can report the future I guess I’ll be OK, but if things go awry, I’m gunna stop and pay the ticket. Here’s an even better idea, leave early, enjoy the scenery, drive safe, be cool.

In case the $500.00 price tag is a little steep, you can peruse a boatload of Radar Detectors by Cobra and Escort at 12 Volt Travel dot com.

The Garmin Motorcycle GPS comes in two basic flavors, with bluetooth and without. It features “High Bright Sunlight-Readable UV-resistant” touch screen. Garmin and 12 Volt Travel both tout it as having a glove friendly touch screen or some statement along those lines.

It also comes with motorcycle and car mounting hardware.

Internal Lithum battery with four hours of service life included.

Traveling on Motorcycle

By Tom, July 1, 2009

Rvers and Truckers are not the only ones traveling. There are lots of motorcycles on the road these days. More than ever, really. With the cost of gas and tires easy on two wheels I can see the trend continuing.

In support of our friends on Motorcycles or sometimes called Touring Bikes the 12 Volt Travel team has added Bluetooth and GPS support for Motorcycles. This includes the Midland BT2 headset that does something like everything. Including Bluetooth to your appropriately appointed GPS.

It connects Mp3 players, iPODs, rider to rider communication and motorcycle to motorcycle communication. Handy thing to have.

The appropriately appointed GPS then would be something like the Garmin, “glove friendly” ZOMO550 Motorcycle Navigator, with 3.5 inch screen. Motorcycle GPS the way you want it.
